[ARCHIVED] Property Tax Notices to Be Mailed Out End of May

Paying Taxes Residential and commercial property owners will be receiving their property tax notices at the end of May. Property owners who have signed up for electronic notices should receive their eBills this week.

COQUITLAM, B.C., May 19, 2023 – Residential and commercial property owners will be receiving their property tax notices at the end of May. Property owners who have signed up for electronic notices should receive their eBills this week. 

Funding close to half of Coquitlam’s total budget, tax revenue pays for essential services such as police protection, fire/rescue response, road maintenance, recreation and culture services programs and events, parks and trails, and more, that improve quality of life for Coquitlam residents. 

Over 40 per cent of the funds the City collects through property taxes are collected on behalf of other agencies including the Province of B.C., TransLink, Metro Vancouver and B.C. Assessment in order to fund regional services.

The deadline for 2023 property tax payments is Tuesday, July 4.

Apply for Your Home Owner Grant Now

The Home Owner Grant, which reduces taxes for primary residences, is administered by the Province of B.C. Eligible owners must apply for the Home Owner Grant directly through the Province before the property tax due date to avoid penalty. Payment Options

  • Online or by phone – Through your financial institution using the eight-digit folio/roll number from your tax notice.
  • Pay online with a credit card – Pay at coquitlam.ca/paytaxes. A non-refundable 2 per cent convenience fee will be applied to cover the merchant fee.  
  • At a 24-hour dropbox – Secure dropboxes are located at City Hall (3000 Guildford Way) in the underground parking area or outside Burlington Drive entrance, and at Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier Street).
  • At your bank – Property taxes are payable at most financial institutions.
  • By mail – Cheques can be mailed to 3000 Guildford Way, Coquitlam, B.C., V3B 7N2, Attention: Revenue Services. Payment must be postmarked by Canada Post on or before July 4 to avoid penalty. Cheques postdated to July 4 are accepted; do not mail cash.
  • At City Hall – City Hall (3000 Guildford Way) is open from 8 a.m – 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.  Please note City Hall is closed on Monday, July 3.

Programs to Help with Paying Taxes

Coquitlam property owners can plan ahead for 2024 by setting up monthly instalments through the City’s prepayment program. Visit coquitlam.ca/taxprepay to learn more. Applications should be submitted to Revenue Services by July 15 to start withdrawals on Aug. 1.

Residents may qualify for the Provincial Property Tax Deferment Program, for their principal residence, if they meet the Provincial criteria. Visit www.gov.bc.ca/propertytaxdeferment for information.
