A Focus on Safety and Awareness

In partnership with PLEA’s Children of the Streets Society, two important presentations are aimed at equipping local parents and teens with the knowledge and tools to navigate today's complex world.

  • Keeping Children Safe Online for Parents (Course ID 155052): Participants will learn to recognize the warning signs of sexual exploitation and how to keep children and youth safe online.
  • Redefining Masculinity for Youth (Course ID 155049): Geared towards youth and preteens, this interactive workshop, seeks to challenge harmful stereotypes and redefine masculinity in a positive light. Students in grades 8-12 will engage in discussions about toxic masculinity, the importance of consent, and practical strategies for being active bystanders in promoting a culture of respect and equality.

Held at Pinetree Community Centre (1260 Pinetree Way) on Thursday, May 2, the one-hour presentations will be followed by pizza and refreshments in Pinetree's Youth Centre (The Landing). Register for the presentations through the online registration system. Space is limited.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
