COQUITLAM, B.C., April 10, 2024 – Join the City of Coquitlam this month in celebrating Earth Day 2024 with events and activities running April 14 – 30.

With two weeks of City programming, you can jump into a number of activities to get into nature, learn about sustainable practices, and connect with your community to help preserve our planet.

Join Us at Coquitlam’s Centennial Pavilion on Saturday, April 27

Clean out your closets and share your treasures at the Earth Day Swap and Sale, the City’s biggest Earth Day event this year. At this swap-meet-style market, you will be able to buy or trade for pre-owned goods, breathing new life into secondhand finds and keeping them out of landfills.

The Swap and Sale takes place at Centennial Pavilion in the Centennial Room on Saturday, April 27, from 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Register as a vendor to sell your items at a table via our online registration platform (course ID 148607) by April 20, or attend the event as a shopper to find new pre-loved treasures.

On the same day, the neighboring Dogwood Pavilion will also host Coquitlam's next Repair Café, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., where you can bring your broken items to be fixed by handy volunteers. Find more information at coquitlam.ca/RepairCafe.

About Earth Day

Earth Day has taken place on April 22 every year since 1970. Beginning as a single day of protest against industrial pollution, it’s become a global movement that inspires people from all walks of life to protect the environment. The official theme of Earth Day 2024 is “Planet vs Plastics”, featuring various actions one can take to help reduce plastics production and its impact on the Earth.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
