COQUITLAM, B.C., May 29, 2024 – The City of Coquitlam is providing more than $183,000 to support local non-profit and community-based organizations, for everything from afterschool programs and youth sports equipment to community events and cultural festivals.
Spring 2024 Grant Funding and Recipients
On Monday, Coquitlam City Council awarded Spirit of Coquitlam grants to 21 different groups, who will receive a total of $183,424 in funding for their projects. Funding for the grant program comes from revenue received through the Province of BC’s Host Financial Assistance Agreement. This program benefits local governments that host casinos or community gaming centres.
The City awards Spirit of Coquitlam grants twice a year to help local organizations host events, offer community support programs, purchase equipment to support increased participation and realize capital projects to advance community goals that benefit Coquitlam residents. Successful Spirit of Coquitlam grant projects must have outcomes that align with the City’s strategic goals, as well as meeting eligibility criteria outlined in the grant guidelines.
Refer to the backgrounder below for more details on this season’s recipients.
The next Spirit of Coquitlam grant intake will open September 3, 2024. Details about the grant and application process are available at coquitlam.ca/SpiritGrant.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
