COQUITLAM, B.C., June 25, 2024 – The Repair Café is partnering with the Coquitlam Public Library on Saturday, July 13, where volunteers will fix reparable items to help keep them out of the landfill.
Coquitlam residents are invited to bring small household goods that need to be repaired to the City’s Repair Café, held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Poirier Branch of the Coquitlam Public Library (575 Poirier Street). Visit coquitlam.ca/RepairCafe to find a list of items you can bring and learn about volunteer opportunities.
The July 13 Repair Café is taking over the entire Poirier Library branch. Visitors are welcome to bring their items to be repaired and while at the Poirier branch, take advantage of library resources on offer including:
- Tech Toys/Kits and Games: Enjoy demonstrations and discover items you can check out to take home.
- Library Lounge: Engage in fun games and activities in our newly opened lounge.
- Digitization Station: Access tools to digitize your materials such as old photos and videos.
What are Repair Cafés?
Repair Cafés are volunteer-run events where residents can bring broken items to be repaired for free. July 13 is Coquitlam’s fourth Repair Café, and the first one in partnership with the Coquitlam Public Library. Residents can bring items such as clothing, furniture, electrical appliances, bicycles and toys to be repaired. Stay and watch your item get repaired by skilled volunteers and you might learn some new repair skills yourself.
The City is looking for volunteers in the upcoming event, and invites people who are handy and like tinkering and fixing things, or who simply want to help out in the community to participate. Volunteers with electrical repair and textile repair skills are specifically needed for upcoming events. Details can be found at coquitlam.ca/RepairCafe.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
