The City of Coquitlam’s Visual Arts Exhibition pilot program will kick off this year’s Culture Days programming in Coquitlam.
COQUITLAM, B.C., September 17, 2024 – The City of Coquitlam’s Visual Arts Exhibition pilot program will kick off this year’s Culture Days programming in Coquitlam.
Starting this week until January 2025, artwork will be on display at two recreation facilities, Maillardville Community Centre (1200 Cartier Avenue) and Town Centre Park Community Centre (1207 Pinetree Way). Residents are invited to the Visual Arts Exhibition opening reception taking place on Saturday, September 21 from 4 – 6 p.m. at Town Centre Park Community Centre. Remarks are scheduled for 4:20 p.m. and refreshments will be served. The Visual Arts Exhibition pilot program highlights the talents of local artists, and promotes dialogue and cultural awareness by integrating more art into the community.
This year’s exhibition, selected by the City’s Culture Services Advisory Committee, showcases the talents of local artists through the themes of “Inclusion” and “Growth,” reflecting Coquitlam’s dedication to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Emerging and established artists aged 16 and up were invited to participate, and selected works will gain valuable exposure in community spaces. Join Us for Culture Days 2024
The City of Coquitlam invites residents to join Coast Salish master cedar weaver and Haida elder, Todd Giihlgiigaa Devries, for a free Cedar Friendship Bracelet Workshop at Town Centre Park Community Centre on September 28. Participants will learn how to craft cedar rope friendship bracelets, while Todd shares teachings on the significance of cedar to the Coast Salish Peoples and the ancestral legends passed down through generations. Two session are available for registration. The first session starts from 2 p.m. (course ID 00170365) and the second session starts at 3 p.m. (course ID 00170366). Visit Town Centre Park Community Centre for a series of Live Art Demonstrations presented by three local artists, whose works are featured in the City’s Visual Art Exhibition at both the Town Centre Park Community Centre and Maillardville Community Centre.
