Go by Bike Week Partnership
Every year, Coquitlam partners with HUB Cycling during Go by Bike Week (May 31 – June 6) on promotional events and activities with education, celebration stations and team or personal challenges. Coquitlam is hosting two Hub Cycling public celebration stations this year, to provide both experienced and novice riders information on cycling amenities in Coquitlam, across the Tri-Cities and in Metro Vancouver. Their first Coquitlam event will be at the Guildford Way Celebration Event, and the second will take place at Burquitlam SkyTrain Station on Thursday, June 5 from 4 to 6 p.m.
Residents are encouraged to sign up online and log their cycling trips each day during Go by Bike Week for a chance to win prizes, or register for Bike Maintenance Workshops.
Guildford Way Transportation Road Improvements Overview
The first two phases of the Guildford Way project have transformed the corridor from the Port Moody border to Pinetree Way with upgrades to enhance safety, accessibility and comfort. This recent second phase of improvements included raised micromobility lanes for people riding bikes and scooters, and wider sidewalks with better lighting and accessibility features for people walking or rolling. People taking transit will benefit from enhanced bus stop waiting areas, while the preservation of mature trees maintains the corridor’s original character.
To improve safety at one of Coquitlam’s busiest intersections, part of the project also included traffic changes at Guildford Way and Pinetree Way, including no right turns on red, protected left turns and advanced pedestrian signal times to give people walking or rolling a head start crossing the intersection. This type of protected intersection is the first of its kind in the Tri-Cities and drivers are asked to pay special attention to this new traffic pattern.
Supporting Safe, Active Transportation
The City Centre Area Plan recognizes Guildford Way as a key ‘citywide greenway’ in the City’s Active Transportation Network, connecting residents and commuters across the Tri-Cities. With proximity to major destinations, parks, schools and City facilities, Guildford Way sees high traffic from people driving, walking, cycling and taking transit. The improvements to road safety and active transportation make walking, biking and rolling more enjoyable while addressing overall road safety concerns.
These improvements along with the City’s annual participation in Go-by-Bike Week events are examples of Coquitlam's ongoing commitment to cycling and sustainable transportation.
- For quick DIY repairs, stop by the bike maintenance stations at Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier Street) or City Centre Aquatic Complex (1210 Pinetree Way). They are equipped with the basic tools to make adjustments and pump up tires.
- For temporary parking, use the TransLink bike parkades at Lafarge Lake-Douglas and Burquitlam SkyTrain stations.
- Don’t have your own wheels? Rent an e-bike (or e-scooter) from Lime in City Centre.
- Coquitlam micromobility users can choose their route on the go with the CoquitlamConnect app, available free through the App Store and Google Play. Find interactive routes in Coquitlam and throughout Metro Vancouver and filter routes based on skill level, as well as whether the routes are off street, on street, or on a major street. Visit coquitlam.ca/CoquitlamConnect for details.
- The City is closely examining the role of micromobility (lightweight mobility devices such as bikes and scooters, and their electrified forms) as part of the update to the City’s Strategic Transportation Plan.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-kwuh-tlum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the sq̓əc̓iy̓aɁɬ təməxʷ (Katzie), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
