[ARCHIVED] Improvements Coming to Address Coquitlam Crunch Concerns

Work on a number of improvements benefiting Coquitlam Crunch users and neighbouring residents is slated to begin in the coming weeks.

COQUITLAM, B.C., Aug. 24, 2020 – Work on a number of improvements benefiting Coquitlam Crunch users and neighbouring residents is slated to begin in the coming weeks.

The City’s multi-faceted response aims to address community concerns regarding parking, as well as pedestrian and traffic safety in the areas surrounding the Coquitlam Crunch trail. Planned actions include:

  • Installing signage along Lansdowne Drive to remind motorists to respect private property, and to observe traffic safety including restricting U-turns and three-point turns in driveways.
  • Finalizing design work to pave and expand the parking lot off Lansdowne Drive from 30 to 60 stalls, as well as improving the directional signage to the parking lot from Lansdowne Drive.
  • Encouraging more use of the parking lot at the south end of the Coquitlam Crunch at Runnel Drive.

These are in addition to the work currently underway to install a signalized pedestrian crossing across Guildford Drive and trail alignment to better connect to the Runnel Drive parking.

More Improvements Coming to the Coquitlam Crunch

The work and improvements noted above are a part of the five-year Coquitlam Crunch Trail and Expansion Plan adopted by City Council in early 2018 following feedback from more than 1,700 residents and trail users. The plan envisions significant improvements, including several new washrooms, paved parking lots, viewing areas, outdoor exercise equipment, safer pedestrian street crossings, signage and other amenities.
