COQUITLAM, B.C., May 13, 2021 – Coquitlam is planning a mix of online and safe in-person experiences – including some novelties – for its 2021 summer events lineup.
Residents can expect a return of signature City events such as Coquitlam Celebrates Canada Day, the Summer Concert Series and the Kaleidoscope Arts Festival, modified to protect public safety. The City’s Cultural Services staff – now with more than a year of pandemic event-planning under their belts – have been busy dreaming up safe, physically-distant activities that will bring some fun new elements to this year’s events.
Supporting Community Recovery
Similar to last year, Coquitlam’s summer events will aid in community recovery by building in support for local businesses, organizations and performers through paid participation and promotional opportunities.
For example, for both the Canada Day and Summer Concert Series events, restaurants have until May 24 to apply to be selected to have the City promote their business. The City will also purchase gift cards for contest giveaways. Details are available on the event webpages: www.coquitlam.ca/canadaday and www.coquitlam.ca/summerconcerts.
Planning for Safe Community Celebrations
Plans for this year’s summer events reflect current health protocols, but changes may be made based on health regulations at the time of the events.
Mark your calendars for these summer events:
- July 1: The 13th annual Coquitlam Celebrates Canada Day will combine online and physically-distant activities. Registration begins June 1 for the new drive-through experience. Registrants will receive an activity bag, which includes a car decorating starter kit and a link to an online decorating tutorial. Decorated vehicles will follow a fenced-off route at their registered time between 12 and 4 p.m. For the online component, pre-recorded segments will go live at 9 a.m. on July 1 featuring a variety of entertainment, family activities, try-it demos, multicultural performances and more. This year, viewers will be able to pick and choose the segments they want to watch at any time until July 5 at 8 a.m. Details will be posted at www.coquitlam.ca/canadaday.
- The fourth annual Summer Concert Series will feature online concerts showcasing an eclectic mix of local musicians, singers and songwriters. This year’s concerts will premiere on Facebook and YouTube, as well as on the event webpage. Information will be posted at www.coquitlam.ca/summerconcerts.
- Aug. 14: The sixth annual Kaleidoscope Arts Festival returns to its usual August timeframe with a mix of arts and culture pre-registered in-person activities. Information will be posted closer to the event date at www.coquitlam.ca/kaleidoscope.
