[ARCHIVED] 2021 Property Tax Notices in the Mail

Mother and child online Newsflash Coquitlam homes and businesses will see 2021 tax notices arriving in mailboxes this week.

COQUITLAM, B.C., May 27, 2021 – Coquitlam homes and businesses will see 2021 tax notices arriving in mailboxes this week.

Funding about two-thirds of Coquitlam’s total budget, utility and tax revenue pays for essential services such as waste collection, road maintenance, sewer and water, police protection, fire/rescue response and many other services and programs that improve quality of life for Coquitlam residents.

About 30 per cent of the funds the City collects through property taxes are collected on behalf of other agencies including the Province of B.C., Metro Vancouver, TransLink and other regional agencies in order to fund regional services.

The deadline for 2021 property tax payments is July 2.

Change to the Home Owner Grant for 2021

The Home Owner Grant, which reduces taxes for primary residences, is no longer administered by municipalities, and therefore the City can no longer accept Home Owner Grant applications. Applications are submitted directly to the Province of B.C. To learn more and to apply for the Home Owner Grant, visit www.gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant or call 1-888-355-2700 to speak with an agent.

Safe Payment Options

City Hall has physical distancing measures in place and capacity is limited. As a result, in person payments at City Hall are discouraged in order to avoid the long line up that may result.

There are several options for paying property taxes:

  • Through a financial institution, online or by phone using the 8-digit folio/roll number from the tax bill;
  • In person at your bank;
  • Secure drop boxes at both the City Hall Burlington Dr. entrance and underground parking lot (3000 Guildford Way) and the Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex main entrance (633 Poirier St.) for dropping off cheques (no cash) 24 hours a day; and
  • Mailing a cheque (post-dated to up to July 2 permitted, no cash) to Revenue Services, 3000 Guildford Way, Coquitlam, B.C. V3B 7N2.

Credit card payments are not accepted for tax payments.

More information about property taxes is available at www.coquitlam.ca/propertytaxes.

Programs to Help with Paying Taxes

Residents may qualify for the Provincial Property Tax Deferment Program, on their principal residence, if they are age 55 or older this year, a surviving spouse of any age, a person with disabilities, or a parent, stepparent or financially supporting a child. Visit www.gov.bc.ca/propertytaxdeferment for information.

Coquitlam property owners can also plan ahead for 2022 by setting up monthly installments through the City’s prepayment program. Visit www.coquitlam.ca/taxpayment to learn more. Applications should be submitted to Revenue Services by July 15 to start withdrawals on August 1.
