COQUITLAM, B.C., Sept. 2, 2021 – The City of Coquitlam will receive a $465,000 contribution from the Union of B.C. Municipalities (UBCM) towards a new online portal for development and building permit applications.
In addition to increasing transparency as applications are processed, the new portal will enhance and centralize communication between the City and applicants. It will also increase the use of automation to modernize Coquitlam’s permit application and approvals process.
The City is one of 43 local governments to receive funding through UBCM’s Local Government Development Approvals Program.
Building on Improvements to the City Application Process
The new portal will build on the City’s successful Development Application Process Review (DAPR) program, launched in 2018 to make the development application process in Coquitlam more efficient and easier to navigate. In addition to a 15% reduction in pre-application processing times and building plan revisions, DAPR also launched a new application issue resolution process and early building permit application pilot. The City has also engaged with developers as part of the ongoing improvements.
The additional funding through UBCM will enable the City to continue to streamline the process of reviewing and approving applications. The new portal, expected to be delivered over the next two years, will update the City’s existing application program, enable applicants to save time and money by reducing visits to City Hall, simplify process and improve record keeping.
