[ARCHIVED] Coquitlam Reaches Settlement with CUPE Employees

Coquitlam City Hall The City of Coquitlam and Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 386 have reached a settlement that provides a new Collective Agreement for the City’s CUPE workers.

COQUITLAM, B.C., Nov. 17, 2021 – The City of Coquitlam and Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 386 have reached a settlement that provides a new Collective Agreement for the City’s CUPE workers.

The two-year agreement affects all CUPE 386 members, including both inside and outside workers, and covers the period from Jan. 1, 2021 to Dec. 31, 2022. Coquitlam’s Union members voted to accept the settlement late last month.

CUPE Local 386 represents approximately 1,500 inside and outside workers for the City of Coquitlam. These employees perform a wide range of tasks and services in support of the community including parks, sewers and roads maintenance, bylaw enforcement, recreation services, building inspections and administrative support to police and fire services.

The new Collective Agreement provides for wage increases over the two-year period (2.0% in 2021 and 2.0% in 2022). These adjustments are generally aligned with inflationary projections and follow the regional settlement pattern for Metro Vancouver municipalities. Coquitlam is the 14th municipality to settle in this round of Metro Vancouver bargaining. In keeping with the City of Coquitlam’s practice, these wage adjustments will also be extended to the City's excluded staff and Council.
