[ARCHIVED] Local Groups Benefit from Spirit of Coquitlam Grants

Tri-Cities Female Ice Hockey Booth The City of Coquitlam has awarded nearly $80,000 in Spirit of Coquitlam grants, in support of local non-profit and community-based organizations bringing the total award to over $9 million since 2002.

COQUITLAM, B.C., July 5, 2022 – The City of Coquitlam has awarded nearly $80,000 in Spirit of Coquitlam grants in support of local non-profit and community-based organizations, bringing the total awarded to over $9 million since 2002.

Updates to Spirit of Coquitlam Grant Program

Spirit of Coquitlam Grants have helped hundreds of organizations host events, purchase equipment, or complete initiatives or capital projects that benefit Coquitlam residents.

The program was put on hiatus in early 2020 as limited funding was available through the City’s Casino Community Capital Fund due to the closure of the Hard Rock Casino in Coquitlam.

Following a comprehensive review, including a survey of local not-for-profits and review of similar municipal grant programs, Spirit of Coquitlam Grants were relaunched in 2022 with changes to simplify and streamline the process.

Through the spring 2022 intake for the City’s Spirit of Coquitlam Grant Program, nine projects will receive a total of $79,274 in funding. The goal of this grant is to assist local organizations in purchasing equipment to support increased participation, offering community support programs, hosting events, and realizing capital projects to advance community goals. Submissions were received during the grant program’s intake in March, and successful Spirit of Coquitlam grant projects must have outcomes that align with the City’s strategic goals, as well as meeting eligibility criteria outlined in the grant guidelines.

Spring 2022 Spirit of Coquitlam Grant Recipients

The $79,274 in approved grants was awarded to the following recipients:

  • Access Youth Outreach Society, $9,069
  • Coquitlam Minor Softball Association, $4,384
  • Coquitlam Search and Rescue, $4,034
  • Immigrant Link Society, $10,000
  • SHARE Family and Community Services Society, $7,893
  • Stage 43 Theatrical Society, $15,000
  • Theatrix Youtheatre Society, $3,500
  • Tri-Cities Female Ice Hockey Association (TCFIHA), $10,000
  • Tricity Asian Arts and Culture Society, $15,394

A second grant intake will take place in the fall. Details about the grant and application process are available at www.coquitlam.ca/spiritgrant
