[ARCHIVED] Coquitlam’s Cultural Summit Returns

Cultural Summit - News Flash

COQUITLAM, B.C., Oct. 11, 2022 – Get inspired and connect with local arts leaders and creative thinkers at the 2022 Coquitlam Cultural Summit. This year’s Summit will explore Embracing Inclusivity + Resilience — A Path Forward.

The 2022 Cultural Summit returns with an Arts Night Social on Friday, Nov. 4, 7 – 9 p.m. at Evergreen Cultural Centre. Showcasing dynamic live performances, and delicious food and wine, the Arts Night Social will open up conversation and stimulate ideas before the full-day Summit on Saturday, Nov. 5, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., also at Evergreen Cultural Centre.

The Summit will include two keynote addresses, roundtable talks, and immersive live arts experiences designed to explore current trends, ideas and themes in the arts, culture and heritage sectors. This year’s topics include:

  • Accessibility and Community Building
  • Creative Adaptations in the Arts
  • Social History and Culture

Keynote Speakers Highlights

  • Vishad Deeplaul // Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Lead, City of Burnaby
    Anything in life is possible when you have true intentions and put your mind and heart into it. Listen to Vishad’s story that sparked constitutional change in South Africa and get inspired to “Be the Change” the world needs. 
  • Andrea Curtis // Executive Director, Vancouver Mural Fest
    Listen to the story of a grassroots group with a big vision for public art and placemaking, and how the transformative power of creativity in shared spaces is the cultural elixir cities need.

Roundtable Speaker Highlights 

  • Jennifer Hayes // Professional Musician, Educator & Consultant
    Meaningful engagement in Arts and Culture at an early age can have a life changing impact on young adults. Learn how to use art as an impactful way to get young people thinking about the world around them.
  • Lindy Sisson // Freelance Arts Consultant
    Let your imagination come alive with ideas on how arts inclusion, accessibility and innovation can change the game and become a movement towards growth and transformation in your organization. 
  • Sheena Jardine-Olade // Cultural Equity & Accessibility Planner, City of Vancouver
    The session will discuss the successes and challenges of working towards a transformation within the arts and culture landscape. Explore the community guided policy in City of Vancouver’s Cultural Plan that seeks to disrupt and dismantle systems of supremacy while addressing the historical and present harm and colonial erasure of marginalized groups.
     

Get Your Tickets
Tickets for the event are $25 per person and include admission to both the Arts Night Social and the Cultural Summit, refreshments on both days, as well as lunch during the Summit. Tickets are available through Evergreen Cultural Centre or via a direct link at www.coquitlam.ca/culturalsummit.
