[ARCHIVED] Coquitlam Introduces More Options to Pay Property Taxes

Hand holds a credit card hovering over a keyboard The City of Coquitlam is expanding payment options for some fees and services, including property taxes.

COQUITLAM, B.C., March 2, 2023 – The City of Coquitlam is expanding payment options for some fees and services, including property taxes.

Following requests from the public and recent changes to regulations in the credit card industry, the City will provide the option of paying by credit card for online property tax payments this year. This change provides more convenient and accessible ways for property owners to pay, and reflects Coquitlam’s ongoing commitment to improving customer service.

To offset the processing fees by credit card providers, the City will also implement a two per cent fee as of March 6 for some credit card transactions. This fee will ensure that only the credit card user will bear the transaction costs associated with their purchase or payment, rather than the broader tax base.

A number of services and payments will continue to be excluded from the processing fee to support public access to important municipal programs and services. These include:

  • Utility payments
  • Recreation program registrations and services processed through the City's SignMeUp system
  • Dog licences
  • Business licences
  • Bylaw fines and charges

Coquitlam property owners who do not wish to pay their property taxes by credit card, will continue to have the option to pay online through internet banking, in person at the bank, by secure drop off and in person at City Hall. Find out more at coquitlam.ca/taxpayment.
