Canada Day -News Flash

COQUITLAM, B.C., June 7, 2023 – Coquitlam welcomes the community to Town Centre Park on July first for its free annual Canada Day event, offering opportunities to eat, engage and be entertained, while also learning more about the many community groups and cultures in Coquitlam.

Coquitlam recognizes that Canada Day can mean different things for different members of our community. As a result, the City aims to provide an experience that is sensitive to the diverse range of community perspectives. Canada Day in Coquitlam is the largest event in the Tri-Cities with a focus on community and multiculturalism. This year’s Canada Day event will offer a range of engaging performances and entertainment across two stages. Other event highlights include food trucks, activities, fireworks and more.

What to Expect

Kicking off at noon, Canada Day in Coquitlam will include two stages of music and dance performances, community and City displays, food trucks, an eco zone, adventure games, a full-site liquor service and a 10 p.m. fireworks finale. Indigenous history and educational information will be included in the event, and online educational and support resources will be available before, during and after the event.

Headliner The Suits, with a wide variety of pop, hip hop, R&B and funk hits, will take to the Town Centre Community Plaza stage at approximately 8:30 p.m. Their soaring vocals and tasteful solos are sure to get everyone moving, grooving and singing along to every song.

Family Friendly Activities

The 8,000-square-metre (86,000-square-foot) festival lawn near the Town Centre Park Community Plaza will be home to:

  • Adventure Games – Stop by for exciting and fun active games for a variety of ages, skills and abilities, including mini golf and a climbing wall.
  • Eat Street – Sponsored by Journey Auto Group, find tasty food options from a variety of different cultures and culinary styles, including vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options.
  • Eco Zone – Join the City's environmental team and local environmental organizations for fun and interactive environmental activities and face painting. 
  • Coquitlam Lane – Snap a photo in the giggle booth and learn about the City’s recreation, parks, multicultural and first response services. Coquitlam’s Tree Spree team will be on site with free tree giveaways. You can also learn more and get engaged on some of Coquitlam’s major projects, including the Strategic Plan and the Strategic Transportation Plan. 
  • The Meadow – Discover the various arts, cultural and service groups from the community, and participate in fun activities. The Meadow Stage will feature cultural music performances throughout the day.

Coquitlam’s Canada Day is an Accessible Event 

Coquitlam strives to create experiences for people of all ages and abilities. On Canada Day this includes providing:

  • designated accessible pickup/drop-off locations
  • accessible parking and entrances
  • accessible stage-viewing areas
  • an accessible viewing area for fireworks
  • multilingual volunteers and staff

How to Get Here

Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park is located at 1299 Pinetree Way with access points on Pinetree Way, Pipeline Road and David Avenue.

  • Transit – The Canada Day event is located a short ten-minute walk from the Lafarge Lake-Douglas SkyTrain station, with a clearly marked, paved path leading the way to the event grounds.
  • Bike – Attendees who choose to ride their bike to the event can access the free on-site bike valet service stationed along Trevor Wingrove Way.
  • Vehicle – For those who arrive by vehicle, free parking will be available in the lots off Trevor Wingrove Way and at Douglas College surface lots. 
  • Pick-up/drop-off – There will be pick-up and drop-off areas in parking lot A (on the west side of the park off Trevor Wingrove Way adjacent to Pinetree Way).
  • Accessibility – Wheelchair accessible pick-up and drop-off is available on Guildford Way near Eastwood Street throughout the duration of the event. 

Pinetree Way between Guildford Way and Pinewood Avenue will be closed to traffic from 9:30 – 11 p.m. for the fireworks display.

Coquitlam is encouraging residents to reflect on Canada’s complicated colonial history with Indigenous communities, and consider both its strengths and its flaws, as the country strives collectively to learn from the past and improve for the future.

  • Information, education, programs, services and other resources from the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) First Nation
  • Links to education and exhibits from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada
  • Resources provided by the Orange Shirt Society

Corporate Partners Lend Their Support to Provide Free Event

Marcon is returning as the presenting partner for Coquitlam’s Canada Day, which in 2022 drew more than 85,000 people from across the Tri-Cities and beyond. A Metro Vancouver housing developer, Marcon is known in Coquitlam for projects such as 567 Clark + Como and Regan’s Walk. 

Journey Auto Group is the sponsor of Eat Street and Recycle BC is sponsoring the Eco Zone. Mariner Brewing has returned as the Beverage Partner through the City’s Corporate Partnership Program, which seeks partnerships with businesses to offset costs.
