[ARCHIVED] Help Shape the Future Public Amenities in Fraser Mills

Fraser Mills Park 5k - Copy - Sized - PNG Over the next five weeks, interested members of the public are invited to share their input on three future community amenities in the neighbourhood.

COQUITLAM, BC, February 14, 2024 – The City of Coquitlam, in partnership with Beedie Living, is taking an important next step in the creation of the community amenities for the future Fraser Mills neighbourhood.

Over the next five weeks, interested members of the public are invited to visit LetsTalkCoquitlam.ca/FraserMills to share their input on three future community amenities in the Fraser Mills neighbourhood: the community centre, the parks and public art.

Public input will be balanced with technical studies, budget, other approved City plans and strategies such as the Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan, to shape the future vision, design and building make-up for these amenities.

Opportunities to Meet, Learn More and Ask Questions

The project team is also hosting several public events for anyone interested in learning more and sharing ideas or asking questions directly with staff.

Two information sessions will take place where attendees can view information materials with staff on hand.

Tuesday, February 27, 4 – 7 p.m. in the lobby at Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St.)

Sunday, March 3, 4 – 7 p.m. at the Mundy Park Field House (641 Hillcrest St.)

For those who may be unable to attend the information sessions, or who may be looking for a quicker opportunity to share input or ask questions, there will also be several smaller-scale pop-up opportunities throughout the community including:

Thursday, February 22, 5 – 8 p.m. at City Centre Aquatic Complex (1210 Pinetree Way)

Thursday, February 29, 5 – 8 p.m. at Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St.)

Saturday, March 9, 11:30am – 3:30pm at the City’s booth at Festival du Bois in Mackin Park (1046 Brunette Ave.)

About the Fraser Mills Project

The City of Coquitlam, in collaboration with Beedie Living, is moving forward with planning and development of the public amenities in the future Fraser Mills neighbourhood. This includes parks, a community centre (which includes a pool), and public art.

The Waterfront Village Centre Neighbourhood Plan, approved by Coquitlam Council in 2022, establishes the land uses and planning policy for the 91.5-acre site. The Plan envisions a mixed-use neighbourhood, including:

4.7 hectares (11.5 acres) of park land

2.1 hectares (5.1 acres) of restored natural area

    A 4,645 sq.m. (50,000 sq. ft.) community centre on a 1.5-acre parcel of land

5,500 residential units (including 462 dedicated rental units of which 195 are below-market rental)

    Office space

9,253 sq. m. (99,600 sq. ft.) of retail space

The future neighbourhood is anticipated to take 20 to 25 years to build out fully. Several public amenities including the Community Centre, Urban Plaza and 4.5 hectares (11 acres) of parkland are expected to be complete and operating by the end of 2030.

Fraser Mills’ public waterfront, parks and community gathering spaces will create a unique first-of-their-kind destination and amenities in Coquitlam. Current and future Coquitlam residents and visitors will be able to stroll along the Fraser River, experiencing and learning about unique natural features and their role in the community and region.
