COQUITLAM, B.C., Mar. 27, 2020 – To protect the safety of crews, the City’s Large Item Pick-up and Seasonal Unlimited Yard Trimmings programs have been temporarily suspended. The City’s bi-weekly garbage and weekly green cart collection will continue as scheduled.
The City was alerted to the service change earlier this week by its contractor Waste Connections of Canada, which is attempting to minimize their employees’ exposure to the coronavirus (COVID-19).
The City appreciates the inconvenience these modifications may cause for some residents, but we need to consider the health and safety of our collection crews so that we can continue to offer our regular garbage and green cart curbside collection.
Regular Curbside Collection Services Unchanged
At this time, the City’s weekly green cart and bi-weekly garbage collection will continue as scheduled.
Coquitlam residents are asked to continue separating their waste properly, including using the Recycle BC receptacles for recycling materials. All garbage and organic materials must be put in their designated carts.
Personalized schedules are available for download, and residents can also sign up for collection reminders and updates on service changes by going to www.coquitlam.ca/recollect.
What This Means for Residents
As a result of our contractor’s service modifications, the City will not be able to provide the Large Item Pick Up service, for the curbside collection of large items, such as mattresses, appliances or furniture.
Similarly, the City will be unable to offer seasonal unlimited yard waste collection service, which was originally scheduled to begin Monday, April 6.
Residents are asked to take excess materials to the Coquitlam Transfer Station (1200 United Blvd. 604-681-5600) or hold onto them until it is safe to resume the curbside collection services.

Recycling Options during COVID-19 Pandemic
While the Town Centre Recycling Depot is closed as part of the public health closure of Coquitlam’s public facilities, the Coquitlam Transfer Station (1200 United Blvd.) remains open.
Recycling and yard trimmings drop-off is free and fees apply to other materials such as garbage and large items.
