Playgrounds in Coquitlam parks were temporarily closed today in response to the evolving COVID-19 situation.
The decision to temporarily close the City’s parks was made out of an abundance of caution, in response to public concerns that some playground users are not practising social distancing as directed by B.C.’s Provincial Health Officer. Signage advising of the temporary closure and the need for social distancing will be installed over the next couple of days.
Updates on the situation will be posted to www.coquitlam.ca/covid19 and Coquitlam’s social media channels.
The temporary closure affects only playgrounds that are in City-owned parks or at civic recreation facilities. The City will be consulting with health officials to assess the possible risks of COVID-19 exposure from playground equipment.
For their mental and physical health, Coquitlam families are encouraged to enjoy the parks and trails throughout the community, while avoiding groups and maintaining a distance of one to two metres from others.
Parents are also urged to reinforce the importance of social distancing with their children.
