COQUITLAM, B.C., February 11, 2025 – For the eighth consecutive year, Coquitlam has been named one of BC’s Top Employers, reflecting the City’s ongoing commitment to fostering a workplace where employees feel valued, make meaningful contributions and are empowered to grow their careers.

This recognition is more than an internal achievement – it benefits the entire community. By attracting and retaining skilled, passionate employees, Coquitlam ensures that City services are delivered with excellence, innovation and care. From City planning to recreation programs, having top talent on staff enables the City to provide exceptional support to Coquitlam residents, businesses and visitors.

This prestigious annual competition, led by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, celebrates organizations excelling in workplace excellence. Employers are evaluated on criteria such as employee development, health and wellness programs, community involvement, and work-life balance.

A Workplace that Values People

Coquitlam supports its employees through growth opportunities, innovative programs, and a collaborative culture. Initiatives like the City’s Core and Strategic Leadership programs prepare staff for advancement, including stepping into leadership roles created by retirements which preserves important corporate knowledge and history.

The City also encourages employees to give back to the community through events such as its annual United Way fundraiser (more than $36,000 raised in 2024) and the Food Bank Donation Drive Challenge (more than $7,000 raised in a two-week period in December 2024). Staff are provided the opportunity to engage with the community through outreach programs and initiatives, like Salmon Come Home, Repair Cafes, Tree Spree and Environment Week.

In addition, Coquitlam’s commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) aims to create a welcoming and accessible workplace for all. Learn more at coquitlam.ca/EDI.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
