Coquitlam is moving forward with construction of the first phase of improvements planned for Glen Park after Council approved the final design plans on Monday.

COQUITLAM, B.C., June 2, 2026 – Coquitlam is moving forward with construction of the first phase of improvements planned for Glen Park after Council approved the final design plans on Monday.

The original Glen Park Master Plan was updated based on public engagement feedback, along with an analysis of existing neighbourhood amenities and conversations with School District 43, to create an updated vision that balances current needs and uses. The upgrades will be delivered in two phases through to 2028.

Phase One Construction Starts Summer 2026

Planned upgrades for Phase One include:

  • Relocated Dog Off-Leash Area: Relocated to the west side of the park among mature trees, a new dog off-leash area will include separate fenced spaces for both small and large dogs. Moved up from Phase Two in the original design, lighting and drinking water will also be added to the dog off-leash area to support year-round use. Based on feedback from the community, fun agility features, flexible and fixed seating options for dog owners, plus shade for both owners and dogs will be included. The existing off-leash area will stay open until the new space is completed.
  • Forest-inspired Nature Play Zone: Tucked into the forested area next to Glen Elementary in the northeast corner of the park, natural elements such as logs, boulders and tree stumps will provide outdoor learning space and opportunities for creative play. Shared with School District 43, the space will be open to the public with priority for students during school hours.
  • Initial Trail Improvements: Realigned and widened trails in the north end of the park will improve access to the new amenities.

Phase Two Design Coming Next Year

Improvements for Phase Two are still in the planning stages and will include:

  • Accessible Washrooms: A centrally located washroom near the playground area.
  • Water Play Zone: A fun, interactive spray deck near the playground and great lawn area, providing all-ages play and cooling on hot summer days.
  • Social Hub and Picnic Enhancements: New standalone covered picnic shelters near the washroom and water play zone, with additional picnic areas and social gathering spaces placed throughout the park. The existing plaza and picnic area will also be retained and the plaza expanded.
  • Park-wide Trail Updates: Accessibility updates throughout the park, including paved primary asphalt pathways to all major amenities.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
