[ARCHIVED] Durant Linear Park Unveiled in Coquitlam

Durant Linear Park Last month marked the completion of Durant Linear Park in Coquitlam - an exciting addition to Coquitlam’s already vast and connected trail network.

Coquitlam, BC, August 13, 2020: Last month marked the completion of Durant Linear Park in Coquitlam - an exciting addition to Coquitlam’s already vast and connected trail network.

The linear park, located at the west end of Intracorp’s Aalto Townhomes community (1228 Hudson St.), provides a connecting pathway between Guildford Way and Nash Drive. The path also connects all the way to Johnson Street, along the north end of the recently completed Koskela building.

With the new section adding 212 steps climbing the 110-foot elevation, locals are already testing this out as a great alternative to the popular Coquitlam Crunch. Plus, the built-in multi-use pathway makes it a more accessible route for bikers to utilize as well. Over 10,450 plants and 92 trees were installed along the park pathway.

This expansion of the Durant Linear Park was made possible through Intracorp’s Community Amenity Contribution (CAC) for the Aalto Townhomes project and provides better pedestrian connection within the neighbourhood and facilitates improved access to amenities such as public transit stops and parks.

In conjunction with this project, the City also made improvements this spring to the existing linear park corridor between Dupont Place and Durant Drive, and is planning future improvement to the section between Durant Drive and Nash Drive by this winter which will update the entirety of the linear park corridor.

See video of the new linear park here.

Quotes

“This Park is an important addition to the community and makes Aalto Townhomes feel integrated and connected to the existing neighbourhood. We hope it will be a great amenity for everyone who lives in the area, and those exploring Coquitlam’s Trail network.” – Evan Allegretto, President Intracorp BC

“Coquitlam’s trail system is one of our best-used facilities. We are so fortunate to live in a community where access to trails for fitness, viewing nature, or general enjoyment is right outside our doorstep.” – Richard Stewart, Mayor, City of Coquitlam
