[ARCHIVED] Enjoy Activities at Coquitlam Rec Facilities this Month

Coquitlam Coquitlam residents can escape the summer heat with pre-registered access to some indoor recreation activities, starting next week.

COQUITLAM, B.C., Aug. 6, 2020 – Coquitlam residents can escape the summer heat with pre-registered access to some indoor recreation activities, starting next week.

A number of indoor activities formerly offered on a drop-in basis – including swimming at City Centre Aquatic Centre (CCAC), fitness classes at Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex (PSLC) and more – can be accessed as of Monday, Aug. 10 by pre-registration at www.coquitlam.ca/registration. Registration is available 24 hours in advance and will be similar to the process for booking time at outdoor pools.

The gradual and safe reintroduction of indoor recreation services in Coquitlam is being guided by the City’s reopening framework, based on B.C.’s Restart Plan.

A Variety of Indoor Activities this August

Pre-registered activities available starting Monday, Aug. 10 will include:

  • Leisure skating and user-group rentals of Arenas 2 and 3 at PSLC;
  • Leisure swimming, user-group rentals and aquafit at CCAC; and
  • Weight room access at CCAC and PSLC.

Timeslots at both facilities will be available between 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. daily. Information and registration is available through www.coquitlam.ca/registration.

Pre-registered drop-in fees are $1 for child/youth and senior, $2 per adult and $5 per family (group of 6).

The pre-registered drop-ins will continue into the fall, alongside a variety of registered programs for all ages that will be available for sign-up starting Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Keeping You Safe Indoors

Access and activities have been modified to ensure safe distancing, hand hygiene, reduced touchpoints and other health precautions. For example, only people with registered timeslots will be able to enter, different entrances are assigned to each activity and users will be asked to not loiter and to leave promptly after finishing their activity.

Signs, floor markings and facility staff will provide guidance at the sites, and further details and maps can be found at www.coquitlam.ca/registration.

Each site has a safety plan including:

  • Training of staff;
  • Use of appointments and registration to ensure physical distancing;
  • Physical alterations to ensure distancing, such as Plexiglas barriers, signs and floor markings;
  • Changes to practices and programs to reduce touchpoints and ensure distancing;
  • Limiting group sizes and adjusting locations as necessary; and
  • Enhanced cleaning of touchpoints.

The City’s plans are flexible – they may be scaled back or modified to protect public health, or they may be gradually expanded based on safety and demand.
