Improvements are coming to the meal program that has been helping hundreds of Coquitlam seniors stay healthy during the pandemic.
COQUITLAM, B.C., Sept. 9, 2020 – Improvements are coming to the meal program that has been helping hundreds of Coquitlam seniors stay healthy during the pandemic.
Coquitlam’s Meals for Seniors, a frozen meal delivery program the City launched in late March, will start offering a contactless pick-up option as of Friday, Sept. 11. The popular program provides nutritious low-cost meals made twice a week for Coquitlam seniors. Approximately 400 meals are prepared in-house at Coquitlam’s 50-plus pavilions each week and more than 7,000 have been delivered to date.
Meals can be ordered either online 24/7 at www.coquitlam.ca/meals or by phone at 604-927-4386 on Mondays and Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Program Continuing into the Fall
Many older Coquitlam residents rely on the food services provided through the City’s 50-plus facilities for their food security.
Introduced to help keep older Coquitlam residents healthy and safe during the pandemic, Meals for Seniors has been enthusiastically received by seniors who are unable or prefer not to shop and cook for themselves.
Meals change weekly and are prepared in the Dogwood and Glen Pine Pavilion kitchens. Two different menu options are provided each week for $7.50, with choices such as butter chicken, beef meatballs, chicken cacciatore, pork stew, vegetable chili, cod with lemon butter sauce, shepherd’s pie and wild salmon with teriyaki sauce.
Starting Friday, Sept. 11, the frozen meals will be available for contactless pickup at both Pavilions from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays, the same day deliveries take place.
Those who choose to pick up their meals will be able to add fresh-baked scones or muffins to their orders, an option not available with home delivery.
The program is only available to Coquitlam residents. For information, including the addresses of Coquitlam’s two 50-plus pavilions, contact 604-927-4386 or visit www.coquitlam.ca/meals.
