Coquitlam property owners have a week to pay their 2020 property tax or utility bills without penalty.
COQUITLAM, B.C., Sept. 23, 2020 – Coquitlam property owners have a week to pay their 2020 property tax or utility bills without penalty.
A five per cent penalty will be charged for payments received after Sept. 30. The penalty is half what it would be in a typical year – part of the City’s taxpayer relief that also included tax and utility deadline extensions.
Easy Ways to Pay
Fast, easy and safe payment options include:
- Paying online or by phone through a financial institution using the eight-digit folio number from the tax bill or five-digit account number from the utility bill;
- Using the secure drop boxes at both the City Hall entrance and underground parking lot (3000 Guildford Way) and the Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex main entrance (633 Poirier St.) for dropping off cheques (no cash) and Home Owner Grant applications 24 hours a day; and
- Mailing a cheque (post-dated up to Sept. 30 permitted, no cash) to Revenue Services, 3000 Guildford Way, Coquitlam, B.C. V3B 7N2. Mail must be postmarked prior to Sept. 30 to avoid penalty.
Residents eligible for the 2020 Home Owner Grant should claim their grant by Sept. 30. It can be claimed online at www.coquitlam.ca/ehog.
As Sept. 30 grows closer, property owners who wish to pay in person at City Hall should expect long lineups due to volume, health protocols and reduced capacity. Some financial institutions may allow in-person payments of City taxes and utilities.

Provincial Deferment Program Available
Eligible homeowners who are struggling financially are encouraged to apply as soon as possible for the Provincial Property Tax Deferment Program, which provides low-interest financial support for property taxes on principal residences.
Homeowners who financially support children, are age 55 or older, are a surviving spouse of any age, or who live with disabilities may qualify for the program.
Although deferment applications for 2020 will be accepted until Dec. 31 through www.gov.bc.ca/propertytaxdeferment, anyone applying after the tax due date must pay any late payment penalties before they can defer their taxes.
