[ARCHIVED] Extra Yard Trimmings Collection to Start Oct. 5

Rake and leaves As fall yard clean up gets underway, the City is offering additional curbside collection for fallen leaves and other yard trimmings.

COQUITLAM, BC, Oct. 2, 2020 – As fall yard clean up gets underway, the City is offering additional curbside collection for fallen leaves and other yard trimmings.

From Monday, Oct. 5 – Thursday, Nov. 13, Coquitlam residents receiving solid waste collection from the City can put out unlimited yard trimmings for curbside pickup along with their Green Cart.

Set-out options for additional yard trimmings:

  • Place yard trimmings like leaves, prunings and small branches in kraft paper bags.
  • Bundle branches –  individual branches must be less than 7.5 cm (3 in.) in diameter and no more than 1 m (3 ft.) in length.
  • Use old garbage cans with a Yard Trimmings sticker. Call Engineering Customer Service at 604-927-3500 to learn how to obtain a sticker.

Know the Rules

  • Your extra yard trimmings bag or containers must not contain food scraps. Place all food scraps in your City-issued Green Cart only.
  • At the risk of a $500 fine, City-issued carts (both Green and Garbage) are not to be set out before 5:30 a.m. on the morning of collection, even if the Green Cart contains only yard trimmings.
  • Bundles and containers must not block sidewalks, laneways or streets and can weigh no more than 20 kg (44 lbs) each.
  • Sod, rocks, soil and plastic bags are not accepted in your extra trimmings bags, containers or Green Cart.

Additional yard trimmings are collected by a dedicated truck, and may be collected after your regular Garbage and Green Cart waste has been collected. However, should your additional yard trimmings not be collected by 7:30 p.m. on your collection day, please call Waste Connections of Canada at 604-636-3520 to arrange for pick up.
