Home Renos As part of its commitment to climate action, the City is encouraging homeowners to take advantage of the special Double the Rebate Offer through the CleanBC Better Homes and Home Renovation Rebate Program this fall or winter.

COQUITLAM, B.C., Oct. 21, 2020 – Coquitlam residents planning a home renovation this fall or winter may qualify for double the typical rebates for home energy upgrades.

As part of its commitment to climate action, the City is encouraging homeowners to take advantage of the special Double the Rebate Offer through the CleanBC Better Homes and Home Renovation Rebate Program.

Through this program, residents who swap out old heating systems, water heaters, windows, doors and insulation for energy-efficient models could qualify for double the rebates offered by BC Hydro, FortisBC and CleanBC. Participants must register for a promo code by Dec. 31, 2020 at www.betterhomesbc.ca/rebates/double-the-rebate to apply for the offer, and complete the upgrade and invoicing by March 31, 2021.

Thousands in Rebates Available

The rebate program is intended to help restart B.C.’s economy and help homeowners save energy. Available rebates include:

  • From $1,000 to $8,000 plus potential bonuses for switching to electric heat pumps from natural gas, propane or oil heating;
  • From $2,000 to $4,000 to upgrade existing electric heating;
  • From $600 to $2,400 plus potential bonuses to upgrade natural gas fireplaces, boilers, furnaces and heating systems;
  • From $1,000 to $2,000 to upgrade water heaters;
  • $200 per window or door up to a maximum of $4,000; and
  • $900 to $1,200 plus potential bonuses for insulation rebates.

Coquitlam’s Commitment to Climate Action

Coquitlam is committed to taking action on climate change by promoting practices that reduce greenhouse gases and conserve energy, both at the City and within the community.

The new Climate Adaptation Strategic Plan to be adopted in fall 2020 augments more than a decade of City climate action that has included signing the Climate Action Charter in 2007, advocating for the world’s governments to lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and initiating programs such as monitoring energy use in buildings, staff education, energy-sharing systems, LED lighting, programmable thermostats, waste heat recovery systems, and a growing “Ecofleet” of electric, hybrid and fuel-efficient compact vehicles.

The City also promotes energy conservation to the community, including energy rebate programs, tips for residents and businesses, and a growing electric vehicle charging network (see www.coquitlam.ca/evcharging). For more information about the City’s climate action work, visit www.coquitlam.ca/climateaction.
