Programming Choices for Many Interests and All Ages
With your overall sense of wellbeing in mind, Coquitlam Recreation staff have put together a variety of programs in February (in-person and virtual) to help keep you fit, learn a new skill or simply connect with others during the shorter, dark days of winter.
To learn more about the programs listed below, visit www.coquitlam.ca/registration, click the Register for Programs graphic banner and then select an area of interest to view programs, dates and times.
Early Years and Children
Looking to keep little ones entertained and connect safely with other caregivers? Pinetree and Poirier Community Centres are offering Time for Tots Wednesday and Friday mornings.
Other offerings for children under 12 include: dance classes; soccer, basketball and ball hockey; and guitar lessons or rhythm and percussion. After school and weekend programs offer hands-on experiences in science, board game building and nature exploration.
Youth
Options for older youth suit a variety of interests too, such as badminton and tennis for beginners, hop-hop and drama, or drawing and mixed media classes. Those 13-15 wishing to register for drop-in Fitness Centre sessions can sign up for a Fitness Orientation. Also, Coquitlam’s Youth Centre sessions provide learning life skills, including budgeting and writing a cover letter for a job application, as well as creating crafts, playing cards or board games, watching movies and participating in bingo and karaoke, depending on the participant’s preferences.
New in February is Entrepreneurship 101, which guides and supports youth in bringing their ideas to life, as well as Girls-Night-In, a chance to connect with other teens in the community.
Adult Fun and Fitness
Programs for adults are wide-ranging—choose from: finance and personal planning workshops; ukulele and guitar; paper collage and other visual arts; pickleball and badminton for both beginner and intermediate skill levels; archery; and digital photography. How about learning a new language, like Spanish, or seek some inner peace with Qigong?
For those who want to keep fit: Fit 360, Latin Dance, Low Impact, Pilates, Yoga and Outdoor Cycle and more. We also have virtual options for those who want to stay home and stay fit.
Skate and Swim
If you’re looking for family swim times or lessons, City Centre Aquatic Complex and Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex both have options. Plus there are skating lessons for all skill levels at Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex.
Keeping You Safe
Safety protocols are in place at all City facilities to ensure the safety of program participants and staff. In compliance with the Provincial Mask Mandate Order, masks are required in all indoor facilities with exemptions as outlined in the provincial Order. For example, a mask is not required when participating in a fitness activity, but it must be worn as you move around the facility.
Coquitlam Recreation is continually adapting to meet the requirements of updated Public Health Orders and we appreciate your patience as we may need to make last minute changes. If programs are cancelled due to Provincial Health Orders, customers will receive an account credit, or you can request a refund on your original method of payment. Please call 604-927-4386 for assistance.
