COQUITLAM, BC, Feb. 8, 2021 – It’s easy to create special memories with loved ones in your household. Our recreation and parks teams have a variety of opportunities available to keep us active, entertained – and safe – while we celebrate Family Day in Coquitlam.
From Friday, Feb. 12 to Monday, Feb. 15, the City is offering a variety of family activities, including free online resources that allow us to stay socially connected.
Swim, Skate or Play at Recreation Facilities
Families looking to skate or swim have a range of options at City Centre Aquatic Complex (1210 Pinetree Way) and Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St.). Enjoy a 40-minute family or leisure swim in the wave pool; or get on the ice for a 60-minute public skate, and enjoy free skate and helmet rentals.
Those looking to play racquet sports can pre-register for badminton and pickleball at Pinetree Community Centre.
Registration for drop-in activities is available 48 hours in advance and must be prepaid online at www.coquitlam.ca/registration or by phone at 604-927-4386. Pre-registered drop-in fees are $1 for child/youth and senior; $2 per adult; and $5 per family (group of six). Recreation drop-in fees have been temporarily reduced through the support of the City's Community Support and Recovery Program. Learn more at www.coquitlam.ca/csrp.
Staying Safe with Coquitlam Recreation
Safety protocols are in place at all City facilities to ensure the safety of program participants and staff. In compliance with the Provincial Mask Mandate Order, masks are required in all indoor facilities with exemptions as outlined in the provincial Order. For example, a mask is not required when participating in a fitness activity, but it must be worn as you move around the facility.
Coquitlam Recreation is continually adapting to meet the requirements of updated Public Health Orders and we appreciate your patience as we may need to make last minute changes. If programs are cancelled due to Provincial Health Orders, customers will receive an account credit, or you can request a refund on your original method of payment. Please call 604-927-4386 for assistance.
Get Outdoors
You can also get active outdoors by exploring one or more of our Coquitlam parks over the Family Day weekend. For park locations and their amenities, visit www.coquitlam.ca/parks.
Try our Spotlight on Sport fitness circuits at Marguerite Park (1480 Marguerite St.), Mackin Park (1046 Brunette Ave.), or Panorama Park (1480 Johnson St.) on the long weekend – a great alternative to going to the gym. The fitness circuits will rotate to different locations throughout the season, so look for them in a park near you. For more information, contact the Park Spark team at parkspark@coquitlam.ca.
Share Your Creativity
Help to brighten up Coquitlam's outdoor park spaces safely as a family. Join the Coquitlam Park Spark team on Saturday, Feb. 13 or Sunday, Feb. 14 to paint a spring-themed fence panel at either Town Centre Park or Mountain View Park. Registration is limited for this physically-distanced outdoor table activity. Masks recommended. For details, locations and to register for this free Family Day activity, email the Park Spark team at parkspark@coquitlam.ca or call 604-889-6359. This activity has been made possible thanks to the support of the B.C. government.
