[ARCHIVED] Plan for a Safe and Fun Easter Long Weekend in Coquitlam

Boy Hunting for Easter Eggs Coquitlam has all the makings for a safe and fun-filled Easter, with free activity kits, drop-in recreation and an abundance of outdoor space.

COQUITLAM, B.C., March 30, 2021 – Coquitlam has all the makings for a safe and fun-filled Easter, with free activity kits, drop-in recreation and an abundance of outdoor space.

To help families plan a safe long weekend, the City has compiled a free activity kit loaded with ideas for at-home fun for children, youth and families. Other pre-registered and self-directed recreation opportunities are also available for residents of all ages.

Easter Kits Now Online

Similar in style to the City’s popular Halloween, Christmas and Family Day kits, the Easter version is now available by download only in the Children and Youth sections at www.coquitlam.ca/spirit, along with other ideas for fun activities for all ages and interests.

The free kits include instructions for crafts for children and youth, recipes, games and even a science project, including:

  • Salt dough Easter ornaments
  • Rice-dyed Easter eggs
  • Easter bunny pancakes
  • Krispie Easter nest treats
  • Eggs-cellent games
  • Nature scavenger hunt
  • Egg drop experiment

Residents are encouraged to #SupportLocal and patronize Coquitlam restaurants and businesses to purchase their Easter decorations, craft supplies, groceries, treats or meals.

Active Options on the Easter Long Weekend

Those seeking healthy activities for their long weekend will find several options at www.coquitlam.ca/registration, including pre-registered timeslots for drop-in skating and swimming.

Booking early is recommended for the greatest choice. Search the Drop In section on the registration website for ideas, or use the filters to search by date, age, activity or location.

Thanks to the City’s COVID-19 Community Support and Recovery Plan, temporarily reduced drop-in fees continue at $1 for children, youth and seniors, $2 for adults and $5 for families up to six.

The easing of restrictions on outdoor gatherings – with up to 10 people from different households now permitted to physically-distance outside – also allows families and friends to plan Easter picnics or outings at the City’s 66-plus parks.

Coquitlam’s extensive trail system also beckons, with 90 kilometres of routes providing options ranging from casual strolls to vigourous hikes, in everything from urban to forest settings.

Search for parks and trails by location or amenities at www.coquitlam.ca/parkfinder.

CoquitlamSPIRIT: Bringing the Community Together

CoquitlamSPIRIT, part of the City’s pandemic response, provides a free online library at www.coquitlam.ca/spirit to help residents of all ages have fun, learn something, work up a sweat, support local businesses, engage with others and connect to resources. New content and activities are continually added.

CoquitlamSPIRIT centres around the themes of caring, connections and community to support residents and businesses through these difficult times. The underlying goals are to support community well-being, create new bonds and build lasting civic spirit and pride.
