[ARCHIVED] People of All Abilities Can Swim at Eagle Ridge Outdoor Pool

Accessible Amenities Coquitlam is increasing efforts to help people of all abilities benefit from recreation at Eagle Ridge Pool.

COQUITLAM, B.C., June 8, 2021 – Coquitlam is increasing efforts to help people of all abilities benefit from recreation access through new accessible amenities at Eagle Ridge Outdoor Pool.

The new amenities include:

  • Accessibility Ramp – A 10m long ramp to assist those who prefer or require entry to the pool via a gradual slope.
  • Transfer Lift – A mechanical seated lift to assist patrons with transfer to the water wheelchair.
  • Water Wheelchair – A wheelchair especially designed for use in and around the pool.

To utilize these amenities, let on-site staff know and they will make the equipment available for use. You need to have an accompanying support person to perform the physical transfer.

Registration

As with all recreation services, adapted options comply with current health protocols and pre-registration is required and available 48-hours in advance. If you’re unable to attend your scheduled timeslot, withdraw online at www.coquitlam.ca/registration or call 604-927-4386 during hours of operation. No refunds are provided for withdrawals that occur within 24-hours of a pre-registered activity.

Reducing Barriers

Accessibility is built into the planning, development and delivery of all City programs, events, facilities and neighbourhoods, through regulation, policy and input from relevant stakeholders and users.

The City’s Community Support and Recovery Plan continues to subsidize a temporary reduction in drop-in fees ($1 for child, youth and seniors, $2 for adults and $5 for families up to four) to encourage recreation access during the pandemic. Learn more at www.coquitlam.ca/csrp.
