[ARCHIVED] Last Week to Pay Property Taxes Before Deadline

Mother and child online Newsflash

COQUITLAM, BC, June 28, 2021 – This is the last week to pay property taxes to avoid penalty before the July 2 deadline.

The City of Coquitlam relies on property tax revenue to deliver essential municipal services and amenities such as police protection, fire/rescue response, road maintenance, recreation and cultural facilities, programs and events, parks and trails, and more.

Property tax notices were mailed to homeowners in May. More information about Coquitlam property taxes and how to understand your tax notice is available at www.coquitlam.ca/propertytaxes

Change to the Home Owner Grant for 2021

In 2021, the Home Owner Grant application process has changed, but program details and eligibility requirements have not. The City of Coquitlam can no longer accept Home Owner Grant applications, as they are now submitted directly to the Province of British Columbia.

To learn more and to apply for the Home Owner Grant, visit www.gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant or call 1-888-355-2700 to speak with an agent.

How to Pay Your Taxes – Avoid Lineups

Please note that City Hall has physical distancing measures in place and our capacity is limited. In order to avoid long line ups at City Hall, please consider making payment online through your financial institution or drop payment off at one of our 24-hour dropboxes as outlined below.

There are several options available to pay your property taxes.

  • Online or by Phone – Through your financial institution using the eight digit folio/roll number from your tax notice.
  • By mail – Cheques can be mailed to 3000 Guildford Way, Coquitlam, BC, V3B 7N2. Payment must be postmarked by the July 2 deadline to avoid penalty. Do not mail cash; cheques postdated to July 2 are accepted.
  • At your bank – Property taxes are payable at most financial institutions in Canada.
  • At a 24-hour dropbox – Secure dropboxes are located at City Hall (3000 Guildford Way) in the underground parking area or outside Burlington Drive entrance, and at Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier Street).
  • In person – If you do choose to pay in person, City Hall (3000 Guildford Way) is open from 8 a.m – 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. Pay by cash, cheque or debit. Credit cards are not accepted for property tax payments. Please note City Hall will be closed on Thursday, July 1.
