[ARCHIVED] Community Sign Space Available to Coquitlam Not-for-Profits

Community Signs at Johnson and Guildford Sports, cultural and other not-for-profit groups can promote their events and programs for free at high-profile locations around the City.

COQUITLAM, B.C., June 29, 2021 – Coquitlam is inviting sports, cultural and other not-for-profit groups to promote their events and programs for free at high-profile locations around the City.

For only the cost of their signs, not-for-profit societies, arts and cultural groups, and sports organizations may advertise activities in the Tri-Cities for free in the City sign frames installed at six locations. The City had been using its sign hubs for community support and safety messaging during the pandemic, but with restrictions easing, the space is once again available to local not-for-profit groups in recognition of the value they bring to the community.

Locations Throughout the City

Groups are responsible for producing, installing and removing their own signs. The frames are located at:

The sign frames can accommodate two eight-foot by four-foot signs or four four-foot by four-foot signs. The City installed the frames in 2019 following consultation with a number of City advisory committees.

Per the City’s sign bylaw, free-standing signs are not permitted at these or other locations in Coquitlam.

Guidelines Provided to Users

Users are asked to closely review www.coquitlam.ca/communitysignage for guidelines about sign content, installation and other details before they develop and post their signs.

Groups may post only one sign per location for up to six weeks – no more than five weeks before the event date or start of registration, and no more than a week after the event or registration deadline.

Use of the frames is on a first-come, first-served basis. If there are issues with capacity, precedence is given to groups that are not-for-profit, groups that are based in Coquitlam, and groups whose events are in the City of Coquitlam. Signs that don’t meet the criteria may be removed at the cost of the group.

As some of the sign locations are in high-traffic areas, those posting and removing signs are urged to use caution, avoid blocking traffic and follow all bylaws.

Poster Space Also Available

Community groups may also make use of nine poster sites around the City:

  • City Centre Aquatic Complex - 1210 Pinetree Way
  • City Hall - 3000 Guildford Way
  • Coquitlam Public Library, City Centre Branch - 1169 Pinetree Way
  • Coquitlam Public Library, Poirier Branch - 575 Poirier
  • Dogwood Pavilion - 1655 Winslow Avenue
