Coquitlam is inviting event organizers to apply to use City parks for their activities and events.
COQUITLAM, B.C., July 29, 2021 – With health restrictions lifting and the final stage of the BC Restart Plan anticipated in September, Coquitlam is once again inviting event organizers to apply to use City parks for their activities and events. Community events have been closed since last spring based on public health orders.
Coquitlam Public Spaces Return to Life
Before the pandemic struck in spring 2020, Coquitlam’s outdoor spaces and facilities hosted hundreds of community-based sporting events, tournaments, festivals, fundraisers, meetings and special events each year. These activities supported organizations, created local economic spinoffs and provided places for residents to connect and celebrate.
Many event organizers remained in touch with the City throughout the closure, and now that events are returning, staff are on hand to support them through the application process.
Organizers are encouraged to visit www.coquitlam.ca/specialevents to find a City park suitable for their event, complete an online form and view information such as application deadlines, fire safety guidelines, permit requirements, fees and an accessibility checklist. Organizers are responsible for ensuring their events meet public health orders.
The City is also wrapping up the temporary Community Outdoor Shelter Spaces program created when indoor activities were limited or banned. Free bookings of outdoor public spaces – subsidized through the Community Support and Recovery Plan, the City’s pandemic relief fund – will end in late July and early August.
Stay Tuned for Coming Events
Over the coming weeks and months, residents can expect to see increasing activity and entertainment in Coquitlam’s parks and public spaces as they are gradually restored as dynamic community gathering places.
