[ARCHIVED] Experience the Arts at Kaleidoscope Festival Aug. 28 and 29

Kaleidoscope News Celebrate arts and culture in Coquitlam when the Kaleidoscope Arts Festival returns Aug. 28 and 29 with both pre-registered and drop-in experiences for all ages.

COQUITLAM, B.C., Aug. 11, 2021 – Celebrate arts and culture in Coquitlam when the Kaleidoscope Arts Festival returns Aug. 28 and 29 with both pre-registered and drop-in experiences for all ages.

Modified to reflect current health protocols, the sixth annual festival will bring live music, cultural performances, movement, arts, heritage, a cirque light show and more to venues around the community over two days. Residents may sign up for Kaleidoscope’s pre-registered activities starting today through links at www.coquitlam.ca/kaleidoscope.

Variety of Arts and Culture Experiences

Presented by Marcon, Kaleidoscope 2021 will showcase diverse arts and culture offerings, blending some of the spontaneity and surprise of past years’ festivals at Town Centre Park with the safety and multi-venue approach of 2020. This year’s experiences will protect public safety through measures such as physical distancing, outdoor event venues, controlled access and attendance limits at the various pre-registered and drop-in activities.

Activities are scheduled to run between 10:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29. Check out www.coquitlam.ca/kaleidoscope for registration links and information about what’s in store, including:

  • Music and Movement – LIVE! :  Enjoy pre-registered barre, yoga and drop-in Zumba classes paired with live music at Town Centre Park for a one-of-a-kind energetic arts experience.
  • Micro-concerts: Stop by the City Centre Pop-up Park (Atlantic Ave. and Baldwin St.) to enjoy live music while playing in the pop-up beach or relaxing in a hammock. Explore Blue Mountain Park and take in cultural dance and music performances in an urban forest setting. Enjoy the return of live music to the TD Community Plaza stage with the micro-concert pop-up finale featuring music and cultural dance performances.
  • Arts and Heritage: Sign up for an artist-led augmented reality walking tour or a hands-on art session with the Art Gallery at Evergreen, or enjoy drop-in storytelling at local parks with Coquitlam Public Library, or an art activity on the history of graffiti art at Mackin House with the Coquitlam Heritage Society.
  • Lumadrome: Laser, Lights & Cirque Performance: Set in the future, Lumadrome follows the journey of Xena and her giant robot companion as they run away to join the Galactic Circus. Experience a captivating cirque performance with a dazzling cast of cosmic characters. Featuring stunning acrobatic tricks and surprises set against state-of-the-art LED lights, lasers and a soundscape with a live DJ. This family-friendly event is suitable for all ages. Pre-register to secure your space. Performances take place at the Pinetree Community Centre.

Drop-in activities are free, while pre-registered activities are $2 per person.

Due to the changing nature of the pandemic, activities or schedules may change. Masks are not required but are recommended, particularly for people 12 and older who have not yet had two doses of vaccine.

All outdoor events will take place rain or shine; participants are advised to dress accordingly.
