[ARCHIVED] Enjoy Arts, Culture and More at this Weekend’s Kaleidoscope Festival

Kaleidoscope Arts Festival culture The Kwerks music Live music, opportunities to move and create, cultural performances, an eye-popping laser cirque show and more are just days away at this weekend’s Kaleidoscope Arts Festival in Coquitlam.

COQUITLAM, B.C., Aug. 24, 2021 – Live music, opportunities to move and create, cultural performances, an eye-popping laser cirque show and more are just days away at this weekend’s Kaleidoscope Arts Festival in Coquitlam.

Returning Aug. 28 and 29 for its sixth year, Kaleidoscope will offer a plethora of free and low-cost opportunities to safely experience arts and culture at drop-in and pre-registered activities held across Coquitlam. Information and registration links can be found at www.coquitlam.ca/kaleidoscope.

Immerse Yourself in the Arts

Produced by the City of Coquitlam with Presenting Partner Marcon, this year’s Kaleidoscope is designed to provide people of all ages a fun and interactive arts and culture experience within a safe environment. All activities comply with health protocols, dependent on indoor or outdoor locations.  

Drop by these free activities:

  • Feel-good low-impact fitness classes to live fiery Flamenco and world fusion music by Carumba at Town Centre Park (Aug. 28, 10:30 a.m. or 12 p.m.);
  • Art activity and display outdoors at the Art Gallery at Evergreen (Aug. 28, 12 to 5 p.m.);
  • Live cultural performances at Blue Mountain Park Aug. 28 by singer-songwriter KeAloha (10:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.) and hoop dancer Alex Wells (12 p.m.);
  • Live music at the beach-themed City Centre Pop-up Park (Atlantic Avenue and Baldwin Street) by The Kwerks (Aug. 28, 2 and 3 p.m.) and Travis James (Aug. 28, 4:15 and 5:15 p.m.);
  • Park Spark Pop-ups with family activities at Blue Mountain Park (Aug. 28, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and City Centre Pop-up Park (Aug. 28, 2 to 6 p.m.); and
  • Micro-concert finale at TD Community Plaza Aug. 29 with The Kwerks (1 p.m.) and The Wild Moccasin Dancers (2:30 p.m.).

 For only $2, sign up for Kaleidoscope’s pre-registered activities:

  • Lumadrome Laser, Lights & Cirque Performance: This family-friendly, futuristic show features stunning acrobatic tricks and surprises set against state-of-the-art LED lights, lasers and a soundscape with a live DJ at Pinetree Community Centre (Aug. 28, 7 or 8:30 p.m.).
  • Music and Movement – LIVE!: Enjoy live viola and classical guitar at the TD Community Plaza, while participating in barre fitness (Aug. 28, 1 or 2:30 p.m.) and vinyasa flow yoga classes (Aug. 29, 10 or 11:30 a.m.). 
  • Arts and Heritage: Take in outdoor artist-led augmented reality walking tours at the The Art Gallery at Evergreen Cultural Centre (Aug. 28, 1, 2 or 3 p.m.); hands-on urban graffiti art crafts at Mackin House with the Heritage Society (Aug. 28 and 29, 12 to 3 p.m.); or Coquitlam Public Library’s outdoor story times (Aug. 28, 11 a.m. at Cottonwood Park and Aug. 29, 11 a.m. at Riley Park). 

Due to the changing nature of the pandemic, activities or schedules may change. For all indoor activities, masks are required for people 12 and older. All outdoor events will take place rain or shine; participants are advised to dress accordingly.
