Coquitlam residents, businesses and non-profit housing partners are invited to provide feedback to support the development of a Housing Needs Report for the community.
COQUITLAM, BC, Sept. 28, 2021 – Coquitlam residents, businesses and non-profit housing partners are invited to provide feedback to support the development of a Housing Needs Report for the community.
In April 2019, the B.C. Government amended the Local Government Act to require all local governments to develop a Housing Needs Report by April 2022.
When complete, the report will provide information on the City’s current and anticipated housing needs including the number and type of housing units needed in Coquitlam over the next 10 years and will be considered when amending the Citywide Official Community Plan. The Housing Needs Report will include a combination of statistical data from sources such as Statistics Canada, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), BC Housing and others, as well as community and stakeholder input in order to create a comprehensive picture of housing needs.

Coquitlam as a Regional Housing Leader
Coquitlam’s strategy on developing affordable housing is driven by the City’s Housing Affordability Strategy (HAS), adopted in Dec. 2015. Recognizing that housing continues to be one of the major challenges facing the region, the HAS aims to broaden the variety of housing types, sizes, prices and ownership available in Coquitlam.
As a result of the initiatives in the HAS, Coquitlam is a leader within the Metro Vancouver region with the number of new purpose-built rental units underway. As of Aug. 31, 2020 there are 5,189 market rental units and another 985 below-market / non-market rental units in the development approval process.
