COQUITLAM, B.C., Oct. 27, 2021 – A convenient new public washroom is now available for visitors to Lafarge Lake at the south end of Town Centre Park.
Coquitlam recently opened two new exterior washroom stalls and a drinking fountain behind Evergreen Cultural Centre, at the south end of the popular park and walking loop.
Providing easy access from the surrounding trails, the new universal and accessible washrooms are part of major upgrades to the 1.2-kilometre lake loop trail and surrounding area.
New Washroom Features
The two stalls each have their own entrance, toilet, sink and folding change table. Outside, park visitors will find a new drinking fountain and water bottle filler with pet bowl installed on a new concrete slab providing access to the structure. New sod was planted at both north and south side of the new washroom building as part of the project.
The City has also installed new wayfinding signs in the surrounding area to direct trail users to the washrooms, as well as new lighting to enhance visibility, surveillance and safety.
Improvements Guided by Park Master Plan
The new washrooms are part of the 20-year Town Centre Park Master Plan (TCPMP), adopted in 2018 to guide the park’s development. Projects related to the TCPMP to date have included improvements to the festival lawn, a new plaza with seating, a new washroom and servery building, a new universal washroom, and additional enhancements to the lawn, gardens, trails and lighting.
Upgrades now under way at the lake loop and surrounding area – a total area of 23 acres – are bringing new lighting, gathering spaces, plantings, signage, and other features over the next two years.
