COQUITLAM, B.C., Nov. 30, 2021 – Now is the time for Coquitlam residents to connect, learn more and engage as the City launches its next round of community engagement for the future Northeast Community Centre.

Prior to finalizing the building plan for the community centre in early 2022, the City is sharing the draft plans as guided by public input and industry experts, and is seeking community feedback to help inform next steps, including the amenities that will be included in this new facility.

Community Input and Planning Creates Vision for Community Centre

After extensive planning and community engagement, the City has created a draft plan for the Northeast Community Centre. This community hub will be a place for connection and a space for all ages, abilities and backgrounds. Targeted to open in 2026, the new facility will include a wide range of services including aquatics, gymnasiums, fitness, library and community space.

This new 80,000 sq. ft. multi-use community centre will be located in the growing neighbourhood of Burke Mountain in a central location within the future Burke Mountain Village, and positioned to capture the site’s amazing views to the south over the city to distant mountain ranges. View the site plan.

Funded through development contributions and potential grants, construction is expected to cost $115 million for the community centre and $12 million for the adjacent park and plaza.

The City is committed to continuing to engage the community and stakeholders throughout the planning process to ensure the centre reflects the current and future needs of all residents of the City of Coquitlam.
