Construction is set to begin in early February on two sections of the Lafarge Lake Loop Trail in Town Centre Park.
COQUITLAM, B.C., Jan. 31, 2022 – Construction is set to begin in early February on two sections of the Lafarge Lake Loop Trail in Town Centre Park. Guided by the Town Centre Park Master Plan, a Garden Walk on the east side and an Urban Walk on the west side of the lake will be the focus of the current upgrades.
The new Garden Walk will be a destination in the park providing year-round seasonal appeal. A wide diversity of plants in the garden will increase the habitat for birds and pollinators while providing sensory appeal for visitors throughout the seasons. The widened and accessible pathways will invite park goers to stroll through the gardens, enjoying the variety of sights, sounds, colour and textures of the garden display.
Urban Walk improvements include repaving and lighting upgrades to improve pathway accessibility, capacity and visibility along with seating for resting and socializing.
The planned improvements were approved by Council on July 26, 2021 after extensive public consultation the previous year. The concept improves trail capacity and the overall user experience, enhances safety and access for people of all abilities, and augments the park’s trees and greenery.
Improvements Guided by Park Master Plan
The upgraded trail sections are part of the 20-year Town Centre Park Master Plan (TCPMP), adopted in 2018 to guide the park’s development. Projects related to TCPMP to date have included improvements to the festival lawn, a new plaza with seating, a new washroom and concession building, a new accessible washroom and water fountain, and additional enhancements to the lawn, gardens, trails and lighting.
