[ARCHIVED] Celebrate Family Day Safely in Coquitlam

Family Skating From Friday, Feb. 18 to the holiday Monday, Feb. 21, the City is offering a variety of activities for the whole family as we celebrate Family Day in Coquitlam.

COQUITLAM, B.C., Feb. 10, 2022 – It’s easy to create special memories with your family over the long weekend as our recreation and parks teams have a variety of activities to keep us active, entertained—and safe—while we celebrate Family Day in Coquitlam.

From Friday, Feb. 18 to the holiday Monday, Feb. 21, the City is offering a variety of activities for the whole family. We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia for many of Coquitlam’s Family Day activities.

All Ages Skating and Swimming

Families looking to skate or swim have a range of options at City Centre Aquatic Complex (1210 Pinetree Way) and Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St.). Enjoy a family or leisure swim in the wave pool; or get on the ice for a public skate. View drop-in schedules and admission rates at www.coquitlam.ca/dropin

Celebrate Family Day at Coquitlam’s Community Centres

Centennial Activity Centre (578 Poirier St.) will have pre-registered Multi-Sport Open Gym times available on Feb. 21 for families with kids ages 1 to 5 years old (course ID #81442) and six years or older (course ID #81440). This activity is available for pre-registration 48-hours in advance.

Across town, Pinetree Community Centre (1260 Pinetree Way) will have activities on Feb. 20, including crafts, free play, jumbo games and more for families with kids up to 5 years old (course ID #81538) and six to 12 years old (course ID #81539).

Pre-register for these activities online at www.coquitlam.ca/registration, phone 604-927-4386, or sign up in person during recreation facility operating hours.

Health Protocols at City Recreation Facilities

Masks are currently required indoors for anyone age five and older (removal permitted during sport and fitness activities). Full proof of vaccination, as required by B.C.’s Provincial Health Officer, applies to certain indoor social and recreation activities at Coquitlam recreation centres, including drop-in swimming and skating. For a full list of activities and activities that require visitors to be vaccinated, please visit www.coquitlam.ca/covid19

Get Outdoors

Walk the trails, balance on logs, and compare and contrast living and inanimate objects. Explore the forest ecosystem with your family on Saturday, Feb. 19 from 9:30 – 11 a.m. (course ID #81848) or 11:15 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. (course ID #81855) at Riverview Forest (501 Mariner Way).

Share Your Creativity

Help to brighten up Coquitlam's outdoor park spaces! Register your family to join Coquitlam's Park Spark team on Saturday, Feb. 19 or Sunday, Feb. 20 to paint a spring-themed fence panel at the Inspiration Garden in Town Centre Park. Participation is free but registration is limited for this physically-distanced outdoor table activity and masks are recommended.

To register online, visit www.coquitlam.ca/registration. In the registration system, go to the Drop-in (Pre-registered) area and click All Ages, Next, expand the Park Spark dropdown to view available times, or call 604-927-4386.

Celebrate at Home

Add a bit of movement to your family’s routine with our Family Day Workout video, led by fitness instructor Niki, and her family. Visit www.coquitlam.ca/spirit and click on the Fitness at Home tile to get started.
