[ARCHIVED] Construction of New Mundy Park Playground Begins Soon

Work will begin this month on a major upgrade to Mundy Park’s playground.

COQUITLAM, B.C., June 1, 2020 – Work will begin this month on a major upgrade to Mundy Park’s playground.

Part of the City’s ongoing program to refresh aging park amenities, the Mundy Park playground will be upgraded with features for both younger and older children, a raised adventure circuit, and inclusive elements for children of all abilities.

While other playgrounds around the City have now reopened, Mundy Park will remain closed to prepare for construction set to begin in June and continue until fall. The project was initially intended to be completed before summer but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Complete Replacement Planned

The existing playground will be removed and replaced with:

  • Dozens of new toys and structures, with designated zones for ages two to five and five to 12;
  • A raised adventure circuit with towers and elevated bridges;
  • Accessibility elements to support use by differently-abled children, such as inclusive play features and wheelchair-friendly surfacing;
  • Rubber and engineered wood chip safety surfacing; and
  • New landscaping, benches and asphalt pathways.

Information about this and other park projects is posted at www.coquitlam.ca/parkprojects.
