COQUITLAM, BC, Aug. 10, 2022 – The City of Coquitlam is supporting HUB Cycling’s 2022 Bike to Shop campaign Aug. 13 to 21 alongside the Austin Heights BIA.
It’s not only a great opportunity to learn how easy, fun and convenient it is to bike to shop in Coquitlam, thanks to the wide range of cycling infrastructure and services available, but is also a fun way to support your favourite local businesses.
Bike to Shop Event
Swap four wheels for two for your daily shopping in Austin Heights and support participating local businesses. The City and HUB Cycling are hosting a Knowledge HUB event on Saturday, Aug. 13 to educate residents and visitors about the cycling amenities in southwest Coquitlam, as well as services available for cyclists including route maps, bike repair stations and over 100 kilometres of bike routes. With the right gear, cycling is possible almost year-round in Coquitlam.
During the Shop Local Challenge, HUB will also award prizes up to the value of $200 per neighbourhood to anyone who bikes to shops locally during the event.

Strategic Transportation Plan Survey Open Now
Visitors can also find out about the City’s Strategic Transportation Plan (STP) update, get involved and have a say in creating a new vision for how people and goods move in, around and through the city. Coquitlam is closely examining the role of micromobility — the use of light transportation modes such bikes and scooters, both human-powered and electric-assist — as part of the update to the City’s STP, given both the rapid growth in demand and sustainability of these forms of transportation.
There will be several opportunities for community engagement over the course of the STP’s development starting with a public survey available now (with an option to be entered to win prizes) at www.letstalkcoquitlam.ca/transportationplan.
The goal in this first phase is to build awareness of the STP update and to gather feedback about how people get around, as well as any challenges and successes in using environmentally-friendlier forms of transportation.
Coquitlam’s Commitment to Cycling
Bike-friendly Coquitlam partners with local non-profit HUB Cycling on promotional events and activities every year, encouraging the health and environmental benefits of bike commuting with education and celebration stations.
The City’s annual participation in Bike to Shop and Go by Bike Week (spring and fall) is part of its ongoing commitment to sustainable transportation. Coquitlam has recently adopted new bylaw amendments, including increased numbers of bike parking spaces, bicycle maintenance and end-of-trip facilities in new buildings, to encourage cycling in the community and make it easier for future residents and commercial office users to travel by bike.
