COQUITLAM, B.C., Sept. 26, 2022 – Indigenous storytelling and an interactive marimba workshop are planned for Oct. 1 as Coquitlam celebrates Culture Days.
Culture Days, a national celebration of arts and culture running Sept. 23 to Oct. 16, provides the opportunity to get hands-on and go behind-the-scenes, while highlighting the importance of arts and culture in the community.
Immerse Yourself in Arts and Culture
Enjoy a captivating arts and culture experience in Coquitlam at Pinetree Community Centre (1260 Pinetree Way) on Saturday, Oct. 1, with free admission, Indigenous and cultural education, interactive workshops and more.
- Join X̱aayda (Haida), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) First Nations storyteller, Kung Jaadee, as she shares her traditions and art (1 – 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 – 3 p.m.). Enjoy lively storytelling, followed by a drumming and singing performance where participants will learn some basic words in Xaad Kil, the Haida language.
- Participate in an interactive marimba workshop with Robin Layne (1:45 – 2:15 p.m. and 3:15 – 3:45 p.m.). Audience members will be invited to join him on stage as they play the marimba, djembe and shakers.
