[ARCHIVED] Discovery Centre and Website Put Spotlight on Burke Mountain Village

Burke Moutain Village News Item The profile of Burke Mountain’s future village is getting a boost, with work now under way on a presentation centre and café, as well as the launch of a new website and video showcasing the lifestyle-driven community.

COQUITLAM, B.C., Dec. 3, 2020 – The profile of Burke Mountain’s future village is getting a boost, with work now under way on a presentation centre and café, as well as the launch of a new website and video showcasing the lifestyle-driven community.

Construction has now started on the Burke Mountain Discovery Centre and café at David Avenue and Princeton Avenue, the gateway to the future village in the up-and-coming mountainside community in Northeast Coquitlam.

Featuring Views, Coffee and Inspiration

Slated to open in fall 2021, the 360-square-metre (3,900-square-foot) Burke Mountain Discovery Centre will host the village’s first café – with seating both inside and on the patio – and is anticipated to become a community gathering place.

The Discovery Centre will help fuel interest and excitement about future planned development and opportunities in the master-planned community that will eventually be home to more than 50,000 people.

The building itself will also play a role in branding the Burke Mountain lifestyle by displaying the expansive views Burke Mountain is known for and featuring natural wood, glass and metal elements typical of West Coast Modern design. The site will also have ample bike parking, along with vehicle parking, and have direct access to Burke Mountain Creek trail and Riley Park.

Coquitlam, in its role as a major property owner on Burke Mountain, has begun promoting the café leasing opportunity and will issue a request for proposals early in the new year.

Building Excitement for Burke Mountain Village

When completed, the 16-hectare (39-acre) Burke Mountain Village will include more than 2,000 apartments and townhomes, schools, parks, a public plaza, community centre and 11,200 square metres (120,000 square feet) of commercial space, including shops, restaurants and a grocery store.

The new promotional video, entitled The Peak of Natural Living, highlights the natural surroundings and views, access to trails and recreation, and urban village lifestyle with dining, shopping, community events and amenities geared to families, professionals and retirees.

The video will be featured on newly-launched website www.burkevillage.ca, which will preview future land sales and commercial opportunities and also help site visitors get to know Burke Mountain with an interactive map and background on the area’s history, amenities, location, vision, planning and more. Visitors to the website are also be able to sign up to join a mailing list for updates.

Future Community Centre Will Support Growing Neighbourhood

As construction on the Discovery Centre begins, the City also continues to move forward with plans for the Northeast Community Centre, a comprehensive, multi-use community recreation centre to be located in Burke Mountain Village.

This community centre is anticipated to be open by 2026, and will include a variety of program and uses. For more information, visit www.coquitlam.ca/necc
