[ARCHIVED] New Concession Expands Food Options at Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park

Town Centre Park Festival Lawn Concession2 - Newsflash

COQUITLAM, B.C., June 10, 2021 – Rocky Point Ice Cream will be offering snacks and treats at Town Centre Park’s new concession beginning in July.

The new concession, located in the upgraded festival hub near the TD Community Plaza, will be in addition to existing park food offerings at the stadium concession. The new 190-square-metre (2,050 square-foot) concession building includes men’s, women’s and universal washrooms and borders a new 650 sq.m. (7,000 sq.ft.) plaza with umbrellas, lighting, and outdoor furniture for dining and lounging, complemented by views of Lafarge Lake.

Variety of Food Choices for Park Visitors

Rocky Point Ice Cream’s food truck was a perennial favourite at Town Centre Park during the TCP Eats program held in 2019 and 2020. In its new home in the concession building adjacent to the festival lawn, they will be open from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. seven days a week during the spring and summer, with reduced hours based on park traffic in the fall and winter.

Rocky Point’s menu will include their famous ice cream products as well as coffee and food such as sandwiches and baked goods.

City staff are also finalizing an agreement to continue food service operations from the park’s stadium concession. The site is now open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (weather depending), expanding to a 7:30 p.m. closing time in July and August. The stadium concession will feature a variety of fresh and healthy food items, as well as traditional menu favourites including burgers, hot dogs, chicken strips, poutine, ice cream and slushies, and family-sized pizzas.

With permanent food offerings now established in the park, the TCP Eats food truck program has concluded.

Updated hours and information for both concessions will be posted at www.coquitlam.ca/towncentrepark.

Town Centre Park Improvements Continue

The concession building was part of the festival hub improvements completed in late 2020 that included an upgraded festival lawn with better sightlines to the plaza stage, upgraded pathways and lighting, a local power supply for events, along with the new plaza.

The upgrades stem from the 20-year Town Centre Park Master Plan (TCPMP), adopted in 2018 to guide development of the 42-hectare (103-acre) park. Other TCPMP projects include the new universal washroom at the south end of the park, and upcoming construction of planned improvements around the Lafarge Lake loop trail that will encompass about a quarter of the park’s area. The project will bring lighting and trail improvements, new gathering spaces, enhanced plantings, wayfinding and other amenities to the popular route.

Information about planned Town Centre Park improvements are available at www.coquitlam.ca/parkprojects. Master plan details can be found at www.coquitlam.ca/tcpmp.
