Swimming Lessons Update

Adult participation (16 yrs +) is required in the following levels for swimming lessons

  • Adult and Child 1-3
  • Preschool 1-5
  • Swim Kids 1-3

One Set at a Time

Swimming lesson participants can only be registered for one set of lessons at a time. You may register your child for the next set of lessons on the last day of the current set. 

Please note, your child will be withdrawn from a program(s) if registered in more than one lesson set, or if they are registered in future lesson sets prior to completing the set they are currently registered in.

BC Vaccine Card Requirements for Recreation Activities

  1. Updated Nov. 22, 2021

    As of Oct. 24, proof of full vaccination (two doses) is required for entry to certain places and programs, as outlined by the provincial government. 

     Visitors 12 years and older will be required to show their BC Vaccine Card prior to entry at a City facility include:

    • Events, including recreational programs, with more than 50 people
    • Exercise, fitness, dance activities or adult sports of any size
    • Drop-in activities and adult sports at arenas and gymnasiums (Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex arenas, Poirier Forum, Pinetree and Centennial Activity Centre gymnasiums)
    • Adult coaches, referees, volunteers and helpers assisting with child or youth sport or programs
    • Parents in parent-participation programs, except for swimming programs
    • Spectators at events or in or near program areas, including swimming

    Proof of vaccine will not be required at the following: 

    • Recreational programs or activities with less than 50 participants other than those stated above
    • Swimming pools (Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex, City Centre Aquatic Complex)
    • Child and youth participants in sport and recreational programs provided primarily for those under the age of 22 years
    • Before and after school programs
    • Teachers/instructors providing education activities with their students in City facilities
    • Rehab or exercise therapy programs

Bronze Star

  • Basic lifesaving
  • Excellent preparations for success in Bronze Medallion
  • Requirements: Ages 8 to 12 years

Bronze Medallion

  • Learn basic water rescue, first aid and resuscitation techniques.
  • Prerequisites: 13 years or older, or Bronze Star

Bronze Cross

  • Learn advanced lifesaving rescues and basic aquatic leadership skills.
  • Prerequisites: All ages, Bronze Medallion

Standard First Aid with CPR Level C

  • Learn primary and secondary assessment skills, personal protective equipment, rescue breathing, one and two rescuer Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and more
  • Prerequisites: Ages 14 years and older

National Lifeguard - Pool

  • Gain an understanding of the principles, good judgment, communication skills and a mature and responsible attitude toward the role of a lifeguard
  • Prerequisites: Bronze Cross, Standard First Aid with CPR Level C, 15 years and older

National Lifeguard - Water Park

  • Trains and prepares lifeguards in safety supervision and rescue in a waterpark environment.
  • Prerequisites: National Lifeguard Core and Pool Option issued within 2 years, recommend CPR Level C issued within a year, 15 years and older
