COQUITLAM, B.C., May 12, 2023 – Just in time for this weekend’s warm weather, Coquitlam is opening its ten spray parks earlier than scheduled to help local residents stay cool.

Effective immediately, all of Coquitlam’s spray parks are open and operational. Visit coquitlam.ca/OutdoorPools for a full listing of locations and hours of operation.

Eagle Ridge Outdoor Pool will open for the season on June 3, also earlier than originally scheduled. Work is also underway to ensure that the Wading Pool at Blue Mountain Park is ready for its scheduled opening on June 17.

Free Family Fun at Spray Parks and Wading Pool

Throughout the summer, Coquitlam's 10 spray parks and wading pool offer free drop-in fun for families with young children. In many locations, the spray features are activated by push buttons, a water-saving measure. Parents are reminded that there is no lifeguard on duty at the spray parks.

Swim at Eagle Ridge Outdoor Pool

For those who prefer to swim outdoors, Coquitlam's Eagle Ridge Outdoor Pool is the perfect option. The competitive eight-lane, 25-metre pool features two diving boards, change room facilities, and an adjacent grass picnic area.

Eagle Ridge will open June 3 for drop-in public swimming:

  • June 3 to 28: Weekends 1 – 8:30 p.m. (two lanes, public swim and lessons).
  • June 29 to Sept. 4: Weekdays 12:30 – 4 p.m. (public swim) and 6 – 8:30 p.m. (three lanes and public swim); weekends 1 – 8:30 p.m. (public swim) 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. (three lanes, as well as public swim).
  • Sept. 5 to Oct. 1: Weekdays 5:30 to 9 a.m. (lengths only – three lanes and a double lane) and 3:30 – 7:30 p.m. (lengths – double lane only, no single lanes); Saturdays 3 – 6:30 p.m. (public swim).

Admission is $2 for all ages and everyone accessing the pool enclosure, even those who don’t go in the pool.

Other Ways to Cool Down

  • For only $25 Coquitlam’s Summer Child & Youth Pass provides unlimited access for those under 18 to Coquitlam’s drop-in activities, including indoor and outdoor pools from June 16 to Sept. 4. Passes go on sale May 23 with details available at coquitlam.ca/SummerPass.
  • The annual maintenance closure of the pool at Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St.) has been rescheduled to the fall to ensure a full schedule of drop-in swimming, aquafit and swimming lessons throughout the summer.
  • Coquitlam residents’ aquatic access under the Resident Access Rate at the Coquitlam Bettie Allard YMCA is increasing from 30 hours per week to 41 hours per week in June, and to 51 hours per week in July and August. Visit gv.ymca.ca/coquitlam-resident-access-rate to learn more about the schedule and rates.
  • City Centre Aquatic Complex, (1210 Pinetree Way) will offer a robust schedule of drop-in swimming, aquafit and swimming lessons, as usual, throughout the summer season.
  • Free pop-up park events at Spirit Square on July 22 and Mundy Park on July 23 will include an inflatable water slide, slip and slide and other fun activities.

About the Spani Pool Renovation and Expansion

Spani Outdoor Pool is over 50 years old and will be undergoing extensive renovation and expansion starting in spring 2023 and completed for summer 2024. The new renovated outdoor pool will be designed for accessibility, sustainability and usability and will include many new amenities including a leisure pool with shallow beach entry, splash area and lazy river, a new warming pool, and new change rooms and washrooms.

The project is made possible in part through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program’s (ICIP) Community, Culture, and Recreation Infrastructure Stream. Under the program, the Government of Canada is investing over $2.41 million, with the Province of British Columbia contributing over $2.01 million.
