Annual Maintenance at Coquitlam’s Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex

Exterior of PSLC

COQUITLAM, B.C., Sept. 7, 2023 – Coquitlam’s Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (PSLC) at 633 Poirier St. will undergo its annual maintenance closure from Tuesday, Oct. 10 to Monday, Oct. 23, reopening Tuesday, Oct. 24.

The fitness centre at PSLC will be closed Tuesday, Oct. 10 to Sunday, Oct. 15, reopening on Monday, Oct. 16. During this time, the reception desk will be open from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. (Oct. 10 – 13) and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Oct. 14 and 15), and will return to regular hours Oct. 16 onward.

Maintenance Vital for Daily Public Use

As the swimming pool at PSLC is open to the public every day and the systems run continuously, the closure is necessary for maintenance and cleaning that cannot be completed while the facility is open. The closure ensures a safe environment for staff and the public, reduces the likelihood of equipment failures and extends the life of City assets.

Annual tasks include:

  • Draining the pools and deep-cleaning the tanks;
  • Deep cleaning the fitness centres and equipment, lockers, change rooms, showers, lifejackets and pool toys;
  • Regrouting tiles and touching up paint; and
  • Inspecting and servicing mechanical systems and other equipment.

Alternative Options Available

Guests can still swim in Coquitlam at City Centre Aquatic Complex (CCAC) at 1210 Pinetree Way, and the fitness centre at CCAC will be open for drop-in fitness classes and weight room access. Hours and details are available at coquitlam.ca/CCAC.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-kwuh-tlum) meaning Red Fish Up the River.  The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the sq̓əc̓iy̓aɁɬ təməxʷ (Katzie), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
