COQUITLAM, B.C., Sept. 21, 2023 – The City of Coquitlam is asking for feedback on improvements and amenities you want to see as we move forward with the next phase of the Glen Park Master Plan.
Located in Coquitlam’s City Centre, Glen Park is within a 10-minute walk for half of the residents in that neighbourhood – including 3,000 children. The Glen Park Master Plan was adopted in 2011 to create a public space that better serves the neighbourhood, including future residents. Since then, two phases of work have taken place, with improvements to date including:
- A fenced off-leash dog area
- A picnic area
- A plaza and playground along Pipeline Road
- A new passive lawn area, known as the Great Lawn
Temporary amenities were also added to bring more life to the park, including a bicycle pump track area with picnic tables, sand volleyball court, badminton court, hammocks and table tennis.
Improvements to be Guided by Public Feedback
As the City moves forward with the next phase of the Glen Park Master Plan, we want to hear from you about what amenities and improvements you’d like to see. Community feedback will be balanced with technical studies (including arborist and archaeological reports), preservation of green spaces, available budget and other approved City plans, including the Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan, to create a refreshed vision that continues to align with the neighbourhood’s needs.
Work in this next phase may include creating an outdoor fitness area, constructing a skate park and sport court along Westwood Street, adding a spray deck and extending the park entry from Pipeline Road.
The community can share their feedback through an online survey running until October 15, at LetsTalkCoquitlam.ca/GlenPark.
Opportunities to Meet with Staff and Learn More
The City is also offering opportunities to meet with the Parks Planning team and ask questions about the project:
- In person: Thursday, September 28 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the main foyer of Coquitlam Public Library (1169 Pinetree Way)
- Virtual: Thursday, October 5 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. via Zoom (registration required)
- In person: Saturday, October 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Glen Park (1149 Westwood St.) in the plaza near Pipeline Road
